Following your root canal treatment, it is normal to experience mild pain in the area around the tooth and soreness around the injection sites for two to three days.
For this reason, Dr. Welch recommends that you follow these instructions:
- Take three to four (3-4), 200mg tablets of ibuprofen every 6 hours for 3 days, even if you do not feel you need it.
- If you are sensitive to ibuprofen, Dr. Welch recommends that you take two (2) Tylenol tablets every 6 hours for 3 days, even if you do not feel you need it.
- Do not bite or chew on the treated tooth for 3 days.
- Allow 2-4 weeks for proper healing before visiting your dentist for the final restoration or placement of a permanent crown.
If your pain persists on the treated tooth beyond 3 days, or if pain develops to a level not controlled by the ibuprofen or Tylenol recommendations, please call our office.
